“Asia continues to be a key area of our focus and a megatrend”
Speaking on YiCai TV’s “Top Investors Talk”, Raymond Sagayam, Managing Partner at Pictet Group, said the firm sees Asia as both a core business focus and a long-term megatrend. He added that Chinese bonds and equities can serve as low-correlation diversifiers in emerging-market allocations and in global fixed income portfolios.
Raymond Sagayam also urged investors to reconsider long-standing allocations to US assets. Persistent geopolitical uncertainty and waning confidence in US exceptionalism, together with elevated public debt in advanced economies, make heavy dollar exposure less attractive. He expects these pressures to encourage investors to regionalise portfolios and to increase the use of strategic hedges.
In this environment, Raymond Sagayam believes in a disciplined, long-term thematic approach. Investors should avoid complacency amid stretched equity valuations and incorporate strategic hedges where appropriate and position portfolios to withstand less transparent geopolitical risks.
