George Bennett: Learning the odds

The threads that run through our lives are often woven in childhood. George Bennett, Client Relationship Officer at Pictet Asset Services, first encountered racing on visits to his grandparents in South Africa at four years old. They owned racehorses in Pietermaritzburg, and George would spend his days watching the blur of horses, learning to pick out the family’s blue and gold ‘silks’ - the distinctive jackets and caps worn by a horse’s rider so that it can be recognised at speed.

Rob Lowe – “Give me a blank sheet of paper, and I’ll work it out”

It is a line Rob Lowe returns to – not as a slogan, but as a way of operating when there is no established playbook. We spoke to him about how that instinct has guided him through a career defined by judgement, adaptability and trust.

When Pictet Wealth Management set out to recruit for the newly created role of Head of Philanthropy Services, the brief was clear. They needed someone with a rare set of skills, someone who combined a deep understanding of wealth management, extensive experience in the charity sector, and the empathy, cultural sensitivity and openness to connect with people from all walks of life – from collaborating with bankers to engaging with and listening to clients.

Charles Bourloud - From zero to the top of Mount Kilimanjaro

“Giving up was just never an option.” At 5400m altitude, Charles Bourloud gasped for air in the dark as he put one foot in front of the other, painfully progressing up Mount Kilimanjaro on a terrain of dust, stones and frozen mud. He felt weak, his heart rang deafeningly in his ears. Then the nausea hit.

It is 6.00 am on Friday 2 May 2025, somewhere near Girona in Spain. Sébastien has had just two hours' sleep. He wakes up on the floor of an ATM lobby. His bike is next to him and his bike computer is off. Shivering, he looks around, slowly coming to his senses. But how did he end up here?

Joëlle Clément - Walking through sand and solidarity

On 28 February 2025, in the small village of Ouzina nestled in the heart of the Moroccan desert, Joëlle and her three friends, Patricia, Aurélie and Valérie, lend a hand to villagers to build a wall for their house. They are marking Solidarity Day, which coincides with the last day of the Elles Marchent trek. With their bodies aching and their heads brimming with emotion, the four friends are still struggling to process how much this adventure has cemented their friendship and boosted their self-confidence.

From seamstress to pasta maker: the talented Maria Martella reveals the secrets of her studio

Eggs, durum wheat semolina and vegetable carbon – these are some of the (very few) ingredients you will find in Maria R. Martella’s studio, on the second floor of the bank. Standing at her worktop, Maria is busy creating. Shapes rapidly appear beneath her fingers, as if by magic. “These ones are orecchiette and these are casarecce. But I can also make cavatelli, if you know what I mean,” she says, before continuing with her craft, the pasta shapes piling up on a tray.
