The Ethos Foundation was created in 1997 by two Geneva pension funds and currently encompasses 121 international member institutions. Its aim is to encourage consideration for the principles of sustainable development and good corporate governance in the investment activities of its members.

The Foundation is the owner of the company Ethos Services, which carries out all investment and consultancy activities. In particular, it offers the opportunity to invest by taking sustainable-development criteria into account, to actively exercise shareholders' voting rights, as well as to enter into dialogue with companies. The different funds and mandates of Ethos currently represent around CHF 1.4 billion under management.

Among other activities, Ethos is a member of various international institutional investor groupings that are actively involved in dialogue with companies, such as Pharma Shareowners Group (PSG), Extractive Industries Transparency Initiative (EITI) and Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC).
