My job in brief

My training and background is in business management; at Pictet I now manage a marketing team of nine, whose role is to develop our institutional clientele – including both prospects and existing clients. We are part of the Pictet Asset Management department, which manages the assets of institutional investors, especially large pension funds and insurance companies. We offer our clients the best management services and investment products available to us, while continuously monitoring their existing portfolios.

To do this job, it is necessary to have studied finance to a reasonably advanced level in order to be able to comment on investment management results and understand the details of the products we sell to clients. Although Pictet has an important share of the market in French-speaking Switzerland thanks to the quality of its management service and its reputation for excellence, the sheer range of its activities forces it to position itself carefully as regards the competition. My team and I therefore have to remain on the lookout for market opportunities, analyse trends and identify the areas in which we need to strengthen our expertise.

What I particularly enjoy about my role is the opportunity to build relationships, while the diversity of the people I deal with and their varying needs require me to exercise my creative side by adapting my business responses to the sometimes complex requests made by clients. An outgoing personality, a proactive approach and excellent listening skills are therefore indispensable qualities for anyone doing this job. This role is often demanding, and calls for empathy, psychological insight – and even a certain measure of intuition… Despite the numerous pressures to which the banking sector is subject, I make it a point of honour to embody Pictet's corporate values (Independence, Excellence, Integrity and Respect) within my team, not simply to ensure its cohesion but also to ensure that we are able to meet our commitments to our clients in full.

My work as Head of Institutional Client Relations

  • Prospecting for new clients by direct contact or via consultants.
  • Participating in and responding to invitations to tender.
  • Analysing the range of services on offer and considering new products.
  • Organising events for institutional clients.
