Books and publications

All commemorative occasions need to leave behind some tangible proof of their existence! It was with this in mind that the bank decided to publish three historical works - each one very different from the next but all intended to mark the occasion in a dignified and permanent manner.

A book on the most important chapters in Pictet's history

Two historical publications had already been issued in the past to mark the bank's 150th and 175th anniversaries. But so much has happened since 1980, and - until now - all we've had are the memories of those still around to tell the tale!

We therefore decided to continue the historical work started by our predecessors and publish a book on the history of the bank. Particular attention was given to the past 30 years, a turning point in the bank's development.

A comparison of how the world's leading financial centres developed

The historical publications for the Bicentennial were not only about the bank itself. We decided to take this special occasion as an opportunity to associate the Pictet name with a treatise extending beyond the bank's own history, thereby making a contribution to academic research.

The subject we chose was a historical comparison of the world's international financial centres from 1805 to the present day, outlining the reasons behind their rise and, in the case of some, their fall.

A 10-part history magazine on a variety of original subjects

What was the backdrop to Pictet's growth since 1805? What are the key events in the various ages that the Bank has traversed since its beginnings? What remains today of this cultural, economic, social and political heritage?

These are some of the questions answered in "echoes" – a lively and richly illustrated magazine that was designed to be both educational and entertaining. There were 10 issues in all, each covering a period of 20 years, helping us to discover the world that our predecessors knew, lived and worked in, and ultimately conquered!

This book is out of print.
